The photo reproduction on the left is the Hard Maple tree dedicated on Flag Day to honor
Sangamon County Soldiers and Sailors who served in the World War (this refers to
World War I, since the marker was placed before World War II. ) The marker is
still on the grounds of the State Capitol Building at 201 S. Second Street,
Springfield, Illinois. The tree has since been removed.
