September 26, 1929. The southeast corner of Fifth, at Monroe Street, was dedicated as the location of the first church in Springfield. The Methodist Episcopal Church was erected in 1830. The church now known as First United Methodist Church sits on the northeast corner of Fifth and Capitol. Click the photo for a larger image.
