Welcome!

Welcome to the Springfield Chapter website.  Whether you are planning to join or are already a member of the DAR, you will be interested in clicking on the links to access the Illinois DAR and the National DAR websites!  The National website is full of information that will help you learn more about DAR, how it works and what it stands for.

"Springfield" was the name chosen for our chapter to be known by its birthplace. We were organized by twenty-four charter members on February 11, 1894, in Springfield, Illinois. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution organized in 1890.

Regent Wauline Quick

Charter member Josephine Preston Cleveland and her mother Phebe Cleveland, are buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield. A marker placed on Phebe Cleveland's grave in 1923 denotes her as a "Real Daughter." The term "Real Daughter" refers to a daughter of a revolutionary patriot who is also a member of DAR.  Regent Wauline Quick is a descendant of Real Daughter Lydia Rollins Wixson. There are 770 known Real Daughters. Second Vice Regent Cherrill Lewis Bethel is a descendant of Real Daughter Phebe Shattuck Merrill.

The chapter Regent's Project is to place a marker at the grave of a "True Daughter" who is also buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The term "True Daughter" refers to a daughter of a revolutionary patriot who is not a member of the DAR.

Springfield, Illinois, is home of Abraham Lincoln, our 16th U.S. President. Springfield Chapter's history is a rich one. We are a chapter that has given one hundred and thirteen years of service to God, Home, and Country. Our membership is open by invitation to women who have attained the age of eighteen and have descended from a patriot who gave civil, military, or patriotic service to the cause of the American Revolution.
