May 20, 1929. The 40th Congress of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) was commemorated with a stone marker placed under
an elm tree on the north grounds of the Illinois State Centennial
Building. Both SAR and DAR are inscribed on the marker. A basket of flowers was
presented to Mrs. Lowell F. Hobart, President General of the National Society
Daughters of the American Revolution who was in Springfield in connection with
the Fortieth Congress of the Sons of the American Revolution. Barbara Jane
Searcy, daughter of State Senator and Mrs. Earl B. Searcy, and Noble Stockton,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Constant N. Stockton, dressed in costumes of a colonial dame
and gentleman to present the basket of flowers.
