is an honorary title, given to those women whose father or mother gave patriotic or military service to
the American Revolutionary War effort.

In 1923,
Springfield Chapter placed a NSDAR Marker on the gravesite of Sarah
Arnold Churchill at Bissell Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. Sarah was born about 1780 in Woodford County, Kentucky. She died October 1817 at Bissell,
Illinois. Sarah's father was Sgt. John Arnold of Virginia. The marker was presented by Ethel Churchill Britton, Regent from Walla Walla, Washington. Take
Illinois 55 North to Route 54 (exit 100 A). Follow Route 54 East and turn right at Colt Road (County road marker 3.75). Follow Colt Road a short ways. Bissell
Cemetery is across from Bissell United Methodist Church. Click on photos for a larger image. |
