The Cape Canaveral Chapter was founded on October 3, 1993, in Cocoa Beach, Florida, with Dorothy York Buck Johnson as the Organizing Regent. The charter meeting was held at the home of Ruth Taylor Irvin, a residence which was home to all seven of the original Mercury astronauts during the early days of the space program. There are currently 57 members in the chapter, which meets on the first Tuesday of the month in beautiful Cocoa Beach.

Cape Canaveral is home to a lighthouse built in 1848. The tower held 15 lamps with 21 inch reflectors and displayed a flashing white characteristic.  After World War II, the Cape area was selected as a test site for the nation's missiles. The lighthouse is generally not open for public access, since it is on Air Force land. Many of the first rocket tests were conducted close to the lighthouse. In 1967 the lighthouse was automated and unmanned.
