Thirteen
organizing members met on June 7, 1974, at the Dunedin home of Joyce
Durfee Haswell. They chose "Caladesi"
as the official name of their new chapter, due to the
proximity of Caladesi State Park. Helen Patrick
Taube (Mrs. Melvin H.) was the Organizing Regent. The chapter
will celebrate their 33rd birthday on October 20,
2008.
Caladesi Island is a pristine semi-tropical island, two miles west of Dunedin, Florida,
in the Gulf of Mexico. This Barrier Island is now a State Park
and the native woodlands, wildlife and beaches are
undisturbed and protected. Visiting the area will enable you
to see the coast of Florida as it was 1000 years ago.
We
offer genealogy help at Dunedin Public Library, every Thursday, from 1-3 PM. A chapter member is
available to assist those who are interested in preparing DAR
membership papers and to advise of available chapters in the area. At the Largo Library, there is assistance
from October thru April, on Tuesday from 12:30 to3:30.
For
information and appointments for completing application
papers, email the Registrar,
Joan Evans.
