Our chapter has 89 members currently, and we are a busy chapter. Last year we accomplished the following:

  • Conducted the DAR American History Essay contest in local schools and presented Certificates of Appreciation to 131 students who submitted an essay. Our 7th grade winner took first place at the National Level and our eleventh grade Christopher Columbus Essay winner took first place at the State Level. Our 2009 Algonquin Chapter DAR Good Citizen was among the Top Ten State Winners

  • Members support the community with work at the local food banks, the woman's shelter, and local historic museums

  • Sponsored the Benton Harbor JRROTC and placed a wreath at the Doughboy statue on Veterans' Day

  • Donated personal care items to the Battle Creek Veterans Hospital in Battle Creek, MI

  • Supported all of the DAR schools with contributions every year

  • Participated in the two-day World War II Reenactment and Patriotic Event, "Lest We Forget"

  • The regent and several Algonquin members attended the 100th year celebration of the Rebecca Dewey Chapter in Three Oaks
