Fort Gamble -1750. Located near the present Coulter's Bridge, across from the Little River, on the old Walland Highway, about 6 1/2 miles from Maryville, TN. Marked by the chapter on Oct. 6, 1940.

In 1790, Josias Gamble built a house and fort near the Little River to serve as protection for nearby settlers, and for those as far away as Tuckaleechee Cove.
